How to remove glue residue from stickers?

Archived Under Sail Repair

Question: Quick question, what do you use to remove the glue left behind by the sail stickers?

Answer: This is not an easy thing to do, but it’s doable. You just have to be careful and patient.

Odorless mineral spirits will remove the glue, but you have to be very careful.

Wet a cloth with spirits, and let it sit on the surface of the sail to penetrate the glue. Give it a few minutes- like 10. Carefully wipe what glue you can off, then repeat until clean.
The thing is, you can’t let the spirits get to the seams, because it will dissolve the glue there as well.

How can I patch my sails hole?

Archived Under Sail Repair

Question: Had an accident with my (only 2 times used) ‘1 4.7 in Waiehu – got pinned against the fence. I wanted to know if you think it might be good enough for the time being until you’re back to use clear packing tape – first because I don’t think we have that material yet and secondly because I can’t afford the repair 🙁 A real bummer but sh… happens I guess.

Answer: The clear packing tape won’t stick well to this scrim material. You can fix this with the marker cloth though. Thin cloth, single sided adhesive.
Just cut a patch that overlaps the rip by about 5cm all the way around it, both sides, and it should be OK.
Make sure you clean and dry the sail well before applying to marker cloth patch.
