Fringe Pro

Surfwave 3 Batten

The Fringe Pro is the result of seasons worth of development by top team riders Levi Siver and Adam Warchol, apart from being Jason Diffin’s personal favorite.

Pure Surfwave, and so very much more. The Fringe Pro is a super lightweight, smooth power delivering and effortless handling sail in our wave range.

Small refinements and improvements took place throughout the size range in the 2022/23 model year, alongside a massive weight reduction, that did not stop for the Fringe Pro, despite it’s already low weight when we started the process. The Fringe Pro is an excellent super light all-purpose sail for riders who prefer an easy power sail in any condition. Best paired with higher volume boards, a concept allowing you to generally bring a smaller sail and further enhance the lightweight handling characteristic of the Fringe Pro.

Foil, waves, flat water, the Fringe Pro feels great in the hands in so many conditions. The ultra-light weight fingertip handling feel combined with the huge window make the Fringe Pro feel like pure surfing, with a power assist. The “Direct Connect” foot batten back end to clew configuration really adds to the precise feel and handling of this maneuver wave sail. Easy power and finesse with a fingertip.

With the biggest size range of any model, 2.8 all the way up to 6.3, the Fringe Pro is an equally perfect choice for smaller riders seeking a lighter weight, easy handling rig feel, for training and light air cruising, for easy and effortless Freeride sailing, and also for foil windsurfing where the power to weight ratio is so important for creating lift in the lightest of winds. Recreational foil sailing is pure bliss with the Fringe Pro.

The Fringe Pro has a Bi-Ply window, UV protected, double layer laminated clear film that lasts 3x as long as mono film for cracking and is much more resistant to hard creases. Bi-ply represents a massive improvement in window film technology.

The new Goya Windsurfing sails now come packed in recycled cardboard and paper tape only. No redundant plastic bags. Your sail bag is that protective bag, keeping your planet, our planet, one step cleaner. We figured it’s a worthy trade off, as our love for windsurfing and the planet only grows.

Pro Construction, Bi-Ply and X-Ply window, Scrim panels.

Available in 2,8, 3,0, 3,3, 3,5, 3,7, 4,0, 4,2, 4,5, 4,7, 5,0, 5,3, 5,5, 5,7, 6,3 square meters.

Available in Red & Fluo Yellow.

Construction Pro, Fenêtre Bi-Ply & X-Ply, Panneaux Scrim.

Disponible en 2,8, 3,0, 3,3, 3,5, 3,7, 4,0, 4,2, 4,5, 4,7, 5,0, 5,3, 5,5, 5,7, 6,3 mètres carrés.

Profile

Fringe Pro.

4.5 Squaremeters.

Compared

Cypher Pro vs. Fringe Pro

Cypher with 4 battens brings more stability to the sail, compared to Fringe’s 3, expanding the range and control particularly in stronger wind, while weights between comparable sizes of those 2 models are nearly identical at Fringe 3.7 = 2.69 kg and Cypher 3.8 = 2.68 kg.

Cypher power is “lifiting”. “Up” force compared to “neutral”. This lifting power makes the sail go well for both freestyle tricks and also foiling, where lift helps get you up out of the water and on foil more quickly. A lifting power delivery also works well for any rider in lighter wind, to help initiate early planing and easy handling.

Fringe power is “neutral” to “slightly down”. This power delivery really helps keep the rider settled in wave sailing where you really want to focus on driving your rail through turns without being lifted or digging the nose in too much. Fringe really allows you to feel the board on the water without too much input from the sail. Nevertheless, Fringe also goes well for foiling, because of its neutral lift, which makes the ride very predictable.

For maneuver oriented windsurf foiling, we recommend moving toward Cypher, compared to Fringe.

Hi,
I have fringe 5.7 and fringe pro 4.5 (2022).
I usually use rdm mast but I was wondering if it’s possible to use sdm masts as well?
Cheers.
Romain

Response: Aloha Romain,

Could you try out the sail with the SDM?

Send me a few pictures of it. It should work well, as another customer asked me the same for the Banzai, which we rigged on an SDM, and it worked well.

Please keep in touch if you have any questions or if there is anything that we can help with.

Wanted a fringe for years because I like the concept, but I have always ended up being talked out of it by people that have now obviously never tried one.

Blown away by it, using a 5.0 in onshore wave and bump and jump, and it is so good. I am on 5.0 when everyone else is on 5.6. Using a small sail on a big 95L board. It is my first goya sail after a lifetime of using another brand (although I use quatro boards), and I think might change everything to Goya. Does it pair well with the nitro ? Super mini is one of my favourite boards ever.

Hi, I am using the Fringe 5.5 for foiling. Manufacturer recommend a 430 mast+ 2cm. I am using a 400 + 32 cm, and the performance seems ok. Does it really change the performance of the sail using the 430?
Thanks

Juan

Hello Juan,

Great to hear that you are thinking outside the box Absolutely, you nail it on the head. For foiling, lightness is key, and a 400mast will reduce you by a few hundred grams.
On regular riding, the 5.5 might need a bit more support, but that will also depend on your type of sailing. If you like to sail and explore the low ends, riding waves with min winds might still work, but if you want a bit more forward drive for jumping and riding powered up, maybe a 430 bottom might just do it. As you know, our mast is interchangeable, the beauty that allows you to personalize the mast performance to your needs.

Please let me know if you have any other questions, thank you for your trust in our gear!

Had the chance to try my new 2020 Fringes 4,2 and 5,0 last month in the different conditions of Sardegna, - and wow, sooo wonderful light and flexible toys, - awesome!
Biggest compliments to Jason Diffin! I don‘t know how you managed it to make Fringe so smooth and easy to handle in such a huge windrange, but you did it again, great job! These are the sails for effortless „soulsurfing“ and pure fun in all conditions. Thanks so much!
And- by the way: Best looking and „eyecatching“ gear on the water!

2018 Fringe (3.5, 3.7, 4.0, 4.5, 5.0) and windsurf in the Gorge. Ok, I was skeptical coming off some older 5 batten sails. Wow, was I ever surprised! These sails are super fun and everything I could have asked for in a sail (and more). With a lot of bump and jump in the gorge, I was pleasantly surprised that I can hold my own in the token drag race across the river. Lock in and you can really climb up wind. The sails really came to life swell riding. OMG! This has changed the game. Dive down a swell, sail is totaly neutral. Bottom turns with ease, allows for the tightest gybes, heal side (switch stance) riding is way easier and more controlled, better/easier tack control, and more importantly, I can stay on a swell making countless turns. Basically, I am having way more fun!!!! I cannot wait to try these sails in the waves. Subsequently, I have bought the quad board as well.

I bought a Fringe 5.0 & 5.3 and super skinny boom two years ago, and few months ago I added two Custom Quads (84 and 104) as well

Just wanted to let you know that I'm amazed by the gear. What's best is that I've progressed my windsurfing more in the last 3 months than I've done in the 3 years prior. I am getting better every day on the water, which is something I've never felt before. It's truly amazing how much more quickly I am learning new stuff, especially on the waves. And it helps everything looks beautiful as well 🙂

Thank you for making amazing gear and keep up the good work!

Hello Goya-team, I have to express my enthusiasm about five years of awesome experiences with Custom Quads, Fringe sails and recently Custom Thruster 105 by more than a few words, - sorry!!

On the search of a bigger waveboard for light wind days in my favorite windsurfing destination Sardegna I found and risked to buy untested the first Goya Custom Quad 104 in 2012, - loved it very very much from the first second!! One year later, after having tested an 84 Quad and a 5.0 Banzai (thanks to Ralph!!) I sold all my NP and JP stuff and replaced it by Goya, - best decision in 30 years of practicing our wonderful sport.

In 2015 I luckily could test the first Fringe 5.0 and compare it with my own Banzai 5.0. I was a little surprised on the lively feeling (straight ahead), but - wow!!! - with the first jibe and especially on the first wave I could feel, that these shapes would be exactly those who would allow even an old guy like me more and better turns than ever, being much less exhausting and tiring, because in the turns Fringes are so smooth, you can make them to nothing in your hand. Pure fun in every kind of wave and, - what no one had guessed before - even in freeride conditions with simple turns.

So: Since 2013 I go with Goya, and even though my body is 65 years old now, I must say, that in these years I´ve had (still have) more fun on the water than ever before, and, - despite the natural age-related less of power and some very, very bad diseases, - I even felt getting better in surfing the waves. Whenever I was healthy and fit enough to surf seriously, in Sardegna I was envied for having the most flexibel and best turning (and - by the way - best-looking!!!) boards and sails on the water, which allowed an old (> 80 kgs-) man like me to surf all conditions (from freeride choppy water to small waves side-on up to mast-high sideshore dreams), always handling the biggest wind- and wave- range with the smallest range of material!

This year´s experiences with my actual gear, - 2018 Custom Quad 94 + 2018 Custom Thruster 105 + some Fringes now have motivated me to express my compliments and many thanks to the „makers“ of Goya for the outstanding work you do year after year in always developing boards and sails, that are not only good for „pros“ and world cup competitors, but in at least the same way for normal, but enthusiastic windsurfers like me, who do not live at the sea, but try to spend as much time as possible there, taking all the different conditions they get.

2018 Custom Quad 94 is an amazing shape: With ten more liters it is even quicker, more agile and snappier than my (be-loved) CQ 84 I had before, - and the new Custom Thruster 105 is an unbelievable versatile board!! The last few weeks I had to test it in almost all conditions Sardegna has to offer, - what a fun!! Light-wind conditions with 28 freewave-middle-fin and big Fringe, very stable, when not gliding, starting to plane like a freeride-board, much earlier than expected; small waves with 5.7/5.0 and 23 freewave-fin; fast, high and choppy Mistral-wave down-the-line along with very gusty wind (5.0 Fringe + freewave 23) and (the last two days) stormy wind and short side-onshore wind-waves with Fringe 3,7 and 21 K-One, - this board (with those different middle-fin options) fits all (lake-surfing of course, too)!! Because of the volume and the „easy-going“ shape the Custom Thruster gives so much safety and confidence, but also maneuverability in every condition, - in Germany we call this „eierlegende Wollmilchsau“ (=> „oviparous wool-milk-pig“), which is one of the best compliments a board can get in Europe.

OK, for stormy 3.7 - 5.0 wind and/or down-the-line wave conditions normally I´d go with my Custom Quad, but it was interesting and exciting to try even those conditions (just for fun) with the CT 105, too. And, - wow - it worked, unbelievable! A few years ago no-one would have expected, that an as versatile board like this Custom Thruster would be possible to shape.

And - again and again - Fringes (2016 and 2018) are unbelievable, too!! Soo easy and light to handle!! I´m looking forward to the new 2019 Fringe!!

So, - many many thanks to the Goya - Team, to KT and the Goya-brothers for developing unbelievable versatile waveboards, to JD for those perfekt matching Fringes, - and thanks so much to Ralph, the German distributor, for his advices and support!!!

Hi Jason,

So far I had just great feedback for the Banzais and Fringes, Banzais feeling a bit softer (due to decreased mast length I guess) and the Fringes more stable and therefore having a bigger range.

Hi Pascal! How are you?

The Fringes are great! I love the way they work when bumping, looks like the sail is a huge heart beating! They are so light and have perfect instant power for the sideshore inconstant winds that I usually sail. They are also very good for freestyle, which was a nice surprise for me.
My only concern is about their durability, I feel I have to be really careful about that big window.

Some friends have tried my Fringe 5.0 and gone crazy! They are more used to sail with ezzy 4 and 5 battens, so they felt a huge difference when they got their hands on my sail!

And now some happy customer words: When I bought my gear during my trip to Hawaii in 2013, I couldn't imagine that those new sails and board would be part of the most memorable moments of my life! During the following 3 years, I took them to Pacasmayo, Lobitos, One Eye and Manawa, got fantastic conditions on Rio's wave spots (Cabo Frio, Buzios and Massambaba) and had sessions in each of these places that made me feel so alive! I just can't forget one mast high swell on a glassy Manawa that made me feel so much freedom, happiness and sintony with nature on a way that I've never felt before.
I really want to thank you guys for developing such nice windsurf gear that helped me enjoy the best years of my life. I think that Quatro and Goya are setting benchmarks and a direction to wave windsurfing that are allowing people to experience the best feelings windsurfing can bring even when the conditions are not the best and even when the rider is not that experient. You are allowing a lot of people to evolve on the sport they love and making their lives full of great moments!

Regards!

I owned a 5.3 - 2016 since 6 month, it's a dream sail.
I love light Wind wave sailing but most important the overall lightness and power make the sail very lively , very subtle to feel small gusts in your hands.Super fun the sail but super efficient, 3 battens does not make significant changes to 4.
Rigging and carrying your kit even in worst low tide beach distances is so easy, this makes windsurf off the wave a simple super easier life.
Another point of view, is how Goya sails have just the right design to support the right sail engineering, the best of the less is more equation between appeal and function.Well done.

Again and again Goya produce the best gear i ever sailed with.

Banzaï 2012 was such good then 2015 Fringe and now 2016, i touch, after searching the best gear, the graal...
On my new board Goya custom quad 86 is the perfect combo anytime anywhere with 3.7 to 5.0.
What else could i ask for ? More wind and time on the water.

Goya awesome clever design.

Thanks all you guys !

the Fringe is the most amazing sail I have ever had. I love it

May 10, 2016

Scored a great couple of days at Long Beach, Vancouver Island....this place hardly ever goes off wind-wise in a proper NW direction, I was lucky enough to be there! Day 1 was windier for 5.0 Guru with 12 secs but waves were smaller. Day 2 was 4-10’ late in the game, 8 secs and the Fringe came out!!

The sail had the pump I needed to get through the glassy sections, allowed effortless and fine balanced punching out, disappeared on the wave when you wanted it to. Wind picked up to 27kn and I downhauled it and it hung in there. Built tough enough to take a beating so at this point I am glad I picked the monofilm not Xply. On a bigger day maybe that may change, haha, so far the ability to spot the surfers and read the waves is awesome. The sail looks amazing in photos too!

Thanks Jason and Goya Team!!

You know what i think of the 106 🙂 just multiple that by 1000 for the 86. Pretty much straight out da box I "added water" as you txt-Ed and the very first wave I score with it was logo+. 🙂 The board is butter, turns so hard, fast and easy. Slicing and dicing is back! Great acceleration in a straight line, and out of a turn, easy to float in underpowered conditions. Short length not a problem, instead big bonus as the board is more responsive and agile.

Together with the fringe the new gear has never put a bigger smile on my face. It already starts when I open my van and pull my gear out: regardless of the conditions I know my session will be good.

Thanks guys!!
