Sponsored gear. I’m riding a Quatro Cube Quad for onshore conditions, and then the Pyramid or a Custom Thruster for side shore and better quality waves. This year I’m really loving the feel of the Goya Banzai Surf Pro Carbon.  That sail is smooth like butter in the hands.  I think I can stay out an extra hour on that sail.
What makes your ride? I really look forward to the feeling of freedom that comes from getting out on the water windsurfing. The more challenging the conditions, the more focused your mind needs to be, and then there’s no room left in your head to worry about all those other issues that can now just slip away for a while and really allow you to be in the moment. I think I’m always chasing the feeling of that one special moment where the wave is setting up in front of you and you get that magic moment of accelerating down the face and into the bottom turn that will sling you into the lip. I really relish that post-session high when your arms feel all stretched out, you are totally exhausted, and yet you can still feel the buzz of that one special ride. For some reason I have trouble falling asleep after a long session like that. You would think that the fatigue would knock you out, but my mind just gets stuck on replay.
What is your most memorable session? Several years back I had the day of days at Upper Kanaha on a day when Jaws was breaking down the coast.  It was crazy big but beautifully organized and well mannered. I remember heading out and just watching a guy come in and gauging the size compared to his mast. It was easily over double mast high! The rides were probably half a mile long. So many turns on each wave. There was so much water coming up the face that it was hard to get to the bottom even at max speed. My Custom Quatro Thruster was absolute magic that day. So confident, so inspiring.
What’s your magic gear and when did you realize it? Right now, my magic set up is a Quatro Custom 82 Thruster with the Banzai Surf Pro Carbon 4.2.  The board is based on a swallow tail file and just rips with a 17cm center fin and 10’s on the side.  I’m in love with the Banzai Surf Pro Carbon. Every year I think I have the best sail possible, but this one is absolutely next level! The sail is so smooth that it even makes the board feel smoother and quieter. It’s like cheating.
Dream Trip. My dream trip is to hit Cabo Verde on a good swell with decent wind.  I’m very starboard tack oriented, and that place looks just unreal. I think I would probably take three 5.0’s and two 85-87 liter boards and be ready to donate them at the end of the trip.
