What makes your ride? I’ve been windsurfing for over 25 years and I still feel as though I’m just scratching the surface. With windsurfing, you never stop learning and every day is different. Windsurfing is a sport where the playing field is constantly moving and changing. It never gets boring!
How much do you love to windsurf? Windsurfing has given me my friends, my health, my travel and many many more positive things in my life. It’s much more than a sport.
What is your most memorable session? I’m lucky enough to have many memorable sessions. The best ones aren’t always dictated by how good the conditions were. Any session where I’m having fun on the water with good friends is a memorable one. Probably the most memorable sessions came from when I was growing up in Oysterhaven in Ireland. The first time making a carve jibe or doing a jump. When I landed my first back loop, I bought everyone at the beach a pint of Guinness. That was pretty memorable!
What inspires you? I’m inspired by people who overcome adversity of any kind, are accountable for their actions and follow their own path in life.
Describe your gear and the conditions you use it in. I have Goya Custom Quads in 78, 84, and 94 liters. I weigh around 81 kilos so the 84 is my ‘one board only’ travel board and definitely my favorite size. Last winter was super windy so I had a lot of days on my 78 just hanging on. I love the 94 for lighter wind days especially when there is a lot of water moving around. For sails, I use Goya Banzais in sizes 3.7, 4.0, 4.5, 5.0, and 5.3. I’ve been on the Banzais for three years now and I love how much drive they have and how light they feel in the hands. The 5.0 and 84 Quad is an amazing combo.
What does riding for Goya mean to you? I love that the Goya team live and breathe the sport. They look at everything with a critical eye and they don’t follow trends just because they think it will sell them more kit. They are true innovators and they lead the industry from the front.
